 Matt and his wife, Melanie are the proud parents of three wonderful children: Audrey Mae (7), Addison (5) and Ross (4) (a.k.a the “Human Wrecking Ball”).
A graduate of the University of Toledo (1995) and the University of Toledo College of Law (1997), Matt is the Managing Partner of D’Angelo & Szollosi Co., L.P.A., a downtown Toledo law firm with a statewide practice in construction litigation.
From 1999 to 2006, Matt was elected to four consecutive terms to the Oregon City Council, where he served as the Chairman of Economic Development and Planning from 2001 – 2006. In November, 2006, he was elected to represent House District 49, encompassing Point Place and Shoreland, North/North Central Toledo, West Toledo, Oregon and Jerusalem Towhship. Matt succeeded Jeannine Perry, who served House District 49 with distinction.
In 2008, Matt won re-election to House District 49, and along with Rep. Armond Budish (D. Beachwood), successfully engineered the takeover of the Ohio House of Representatives for the House Democratic Caucus. Matt was overwhelmingly elected by his peers to serve as the Speaker Pro Tempore, the second highest ranking position in the Ohio House of Representatives in the majority.
In 2010, Matt was elected to his third term in the state legislature, and was again elected to a leadership position in the Ohio House Democratic Caucus. He currently serves as the Assistant House Minority Leader, the second highest ranking position in the Ohio House of Representatives in the minority.
Prior to his service in the state legislature, Matt was appointed as a Trustee on the Lucas County Children’s Services Board for five years, where he served as Chairman of the Personnel Committee, and has been an Advisory Board Member for the Little Sisters of the Poor.
Matt is proud to be a Silver Life Member of the NAACP.
He and his family are active members of St. Stephen’s Catholic Church in East Toledo, where Melanie regularly teaches the children’s liturgy while Matt has been a reader for over 15 years.
